Dan Jorgensen – Steering Committee Member

Dan Jorgensen recently retired after thirty-two years in public education.  Dan spent 17 years a teacher in intermediate grade levels. Following his time as a teacher, he spent 15 years as a school-based and district level counsellor, where he supported students with emotional, behavioural, and learning challenges.  During that time, he also worked in-servicing staff in programs and curriculum in the areas of emotional and social development.

During the last two years he spent a total of eight months studying Spanish and travelling in Central America. Dan came across School of Louise’s Dreams during a recent trip to Nicaragua. After spending time in Nicaragua and having seen the disparity and lack of opportunities available to the majority of the people there, his interest grew into a commitment to look for ways to help.  Dan decided to dedicate his time to assisting the School of Louise’s Dreams both on the ground in Nagarote and from his home in Vancouver.

Dan lives with his wife Barbara and three sons. Barbara is also a teacher, and has also become involved with the Righ to Learn. She will be joining Dan on his upcoming travels to School of Louise’s Dreams.
